SAP Datasphere Logo

SAP Datasphere is the evolution of SAP Data Warehouse Cloud which itself is the successor to SAP Business Warehouse (BW).

In addition Extraction, Transformation, and Load (ETL) functionality found in BusinessObjects Data Integrator has been incorporated into the Datasphere. It provides a unified data experience to deliver seamless and scalable access to all your business data. The SAP Datasphere builds on all the powerful capabilities of SAP Data Warehouse Cloud. Now it adds new data integration, cataloging, and semantic modelling features that will be further developed in the future.

Overview of SAP Datasphere

The Datasphere is the next generation of SAP Data Warehouse Cloud. It is a comprehensive data service that enables every data professional to deliver seamless and scalable access to mission-critical business data. It provides a unified experience for data integration, data cataloging, semantic modeling, data warehousing, data federation, and data virtualization. This allows data professionals to easily distribute mission-critical business data – with business context and logic preserved – across their organization’s data landscape, by way of a business data fabric. A data fabric is a data-management architecture that focuses on delivering an integrated, semantically rich data layer over underlying data landscapes to provide seamless and scalable access to data without duplication. Here are SAP’s web pages on Datasphere capabilities.

Open Ecosystem

The Datasphere, and its open data ecosystem, is the technology foundation that enables a business data fabric. SAP Datasphere is the strategic public cloud solution of SAP, and the investment areas focus on the following topics:

  • Modeling will focus on harmonizing the data and business layer artifacts. Here the Analytic Model will be strengthened as the exposure layer, while adding new OLAP and efficiency features.
  • Semantic Onboarding. A unified entry point for semantically rich model generation and import into SAP Datasphere. Embraces data products from the Data Marketplace as well as Business Content.
  • Data integration. Capabilities are being extended in various ways. Enabling advanced data transformations to cover further Data Intelligence use-cases. Plus enabling more data sources and targets for Replication Flows.
  • Catalog. Will be extended with more sources for data crawling. Adds a greater level of detail to increase the data literacy across the stack.
  • Governance with more detailed role definitions and enhanced life-cycle management.
  • SAP BW Bridge with increased functionality of SAP BW/4HANA capabilities also in SAP Datasphere like OLAP features and more.
  • SAP Analytics Cloud integration with deepened data model integration. Further extensions towards a seamless planning experience and continued efforts to lift remaining feature Limitations.
  • Partner integration with closer integration to Collibra, Confluent, Databricks, Data Robot, and Google Cloud.
