Microsoft Fabric Vertical Industry Solutions: Healthcare

Microsoft Fabric for Healthcare is focused on the ingestion and management of clinical data.

Microsoft introduces it like this:

“Healthcare data solutions are strategically designed to accelerate the time to value for customers by addressing the critical need to efficiently transform healthcare data into a suitable format for analysis. With these solutions, healthcare organizations can seamlessly conduct exploratory analysis and run large-scale analytics, unlocking the full potential of their data assets.”

Critically given the sensitive nature of this kind of data, a lot of effort has gone in to making sure Fabric processes data in line with health industry standards such as FHIR and DICOM, and supports regulatory compliance with GDPR and HIPAA.

There’s AI support for imaging at the heart of Fabric for healthcare, allowing you to use Azure’s extensive image recognition capabilities to ingest, store, and analyse imaging meta data including X-rays, CT scans, and MRIs.

We can see some key features of the Heathcare Solution:

  1. FHIR data ingestion
  2. Imaging data from unstructured clinical notes
  3. Medical Device Data is coming soon
  4. Output to OMOP Analytics and Microsoft Dynamics 365

There’s a useful schematic showing at a high level how Fabric will support clinical data ingestion, data cleaning and transformation through the usual Bronz, Silver and Gold layers, and finally output to OMOP Analytics and Microsoft Dynamics 365.
