Moving Data Into the Data Mart

The process of moving data from the source systems and into the data mart has three key steps:

- Extract the data from the source systems, this may include a preliminary set of tasks to profile the data and parse it for validity;

- Transform the data into the format needed for the target system, potentially validating and manipulating the data to ensure conformance;

- Load into the target database, generating aggregates where appropriate, and loading either incrementally or through a clear down and reload activity.
