With
the information strategy in place and the business requirements defined,
we can commence design work. Any design needs to able to take into account
existing technical architecture, with a view to protecting your
investments in legacy systems by integrating them with new technologies,
thereby improving the use of data. The project needs to be carefully scoped so that a cost/benefit analysis can be performed. When we move onto design itself we need to consider the most appropriate form of back-end processing (RDBMS or OLAP) and the most suitable combination of client tools, which may well include intranet/internet technologies. We look on BI projects as "Business Projects" rather than "IT Projects" and strongly believe that user involvement is essential to success, employing an iterative approach to development. Finally, we look to deployment, which includes implementation, training, and ongoing support. To hold all this activity together, Comset's project manager will have implemented a formal project reporting activity, which includes regular liaison with the business sponsor. |
